About BJ Thomas
Bertram J. Thomas, PhD, MBA
BJ Thomas has been helping individuals and families achieve their financial and home-ownership goals for more than 20 years. His dedication to helping others stems from his experience as a young boy in Kingston, Jamaica. Growing up with very little and a large family of 11, he remembers the deeds of his teachers and community as they made sure he and his 8 siblings always had warm food, clean clothes, and a place to lay their heads.
Always striving for excellence, BJ went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Physics and his master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of the West Indies before coming to the United States to earn his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. Building a family of his own, a wife and two children, he moved to California in 1984 where he worked as an engineer for the Department of Water and Power (DWP) in Los Angeles. While working there he served as a professor of Engineering at Cal State University, Los Angeles, and also earned his MBA from Pepperdine University. He then started a few family businesses, including a candy store at the Fox Hills Mall, and a women's clothing boutique in Antigua, West Indies.
Upon retirement from DWP, BJ decided to return the favor that was given to him so many years before. He wanted to help families the way that his family was helped when he was a young boy. Beginning in 1998, after recognizing a need for families to build wealth and secure their livelihood, BJ earned licenses in Real Estate, Mortgage, Insurance, and Financial Services. He has helped hundreds of families, and he is ready to help you and yours.
